Quick Knits

Today we were approached at the store, about having someone knit one mitten for a photoshoot. The tricky part about this task was that it needed to be done by Wednesday at 10 am. The mitten was for a photoshoot with Travel Alberta promoting tourism. I took on the challenge and into the wee hours of the morning a mitten was born. I was quite worried that it wouldn't be finished in time but I got it done!

Aryshire - A Cabled Ponchette

A few days ago I released my pattern Aryshire - A Cabled Ponchette. It was part of the Universal Yarns Designer Collaboration, which means that it will be sold by Universal Yarns and by me here (and Ravelry & Patternfish) under A Sarah Grieve Production. The ponchette is knit in the round from the neck down. Then stitches are picked up and knit for the hood. When I was making the sample, I grafted the stitches together for the hood. The cable band is knit and then sewn onto the bottom of the ponchette and around the edge of hood.

The lower edge of the ponchette has a slight asymetrical eding to it - to keep it fresh and trendy! I wanted to create something that you could just pop on and be ready to go out and have fun. I love the idea of the poncho, I just wasn't overly in love with the old-school retro poncho. I wanted something stylish, that you could pair with cute jeans and some nice boots.

You probably recognize the cable detail at the bottom of the ponchette - and you would be correct! It's very much like the cable on the Miss Maggie Slouchy Hat. Universal Yarns did all the tech editing and photography (© Shane Baskin/Blackbox Studios). They were so wonderful to work with!

Ava Beret in Petite Purls Winter 2012

The Ava Beret comes out today in the Petite Purls Winter 2012 Issue! I'm so excited - it's the front cover!! Yay! I couldn't believe it - how exciting! It's available for free on their site.

I had this idea for quite some time before the call for submissions for this issue came out. When I read it, I just knew that I had to submit.

You probably recognize the beautiful model - Mary MacLennan. She was the model in the Mary's Cardi pattern. Cheryl MacLennan, Mary's Mom, did all the beautiful photography. I was so pleased with the photos - BIG THANKS to Cheryl and Mary for making this pattern as wonderful and more so, then I saw in my imagination! It was Cheryl's idea to add the button - which definitely makes the hat.

Mayfaire - A Crochet Beret

Today I am releasing the Mayfaire Crochet Beret pattern on Ravelry and here on my site. This pattern has been available at Gina Brown's as a pattern and also as the project for the 2nd week of my Beginner Crochet Class. Everyone in the last class did such a great job and their hats looked awesome. I'm so excited to get another pattern done and available. Sometimes working on your own schedual can be hard to get things finished!

The sample hat was made out of Sirdar Eco Wool. It's a dk weight organic wool. I also made a sample out of the worsted weight Berroco Ultra Alpaca that turned out quite nicely and is now my hat! I threaded a ribbon through the eyelets to dress it up a wee bit. I just had to use a purple ribbon for it! Soon I will have this pattern available on Patternfish as well. I'm going to have quite a few new surprises on here this year :)

Happy New Years!

2012.

We made it!

This year I'm going to publish my New Years resolutions. Normally I would never do that as if I didn't live up to my goals I would be forever shamed. not really, but I would definitely feel disappointed.

I want to publish 25 patterns this year. With any luck I will be able to do this!
