Photo Shoot With Cheryl!

Today I spent the afternoon with Cheryl. I was busily knitting more flowers when I realized that I had to pick up the rose petals that I had ordered from the flower store. I couldn't believe that for 5$, I received a whole grocery shopping bag FULL of rose petals. Such a good deal!

We had a wonderful time shooting Mary in the headbands - she was fast asleep when I arrived; which made for some wonderful photos!  She looks like a sweet little angel - so adorable :)

After three quarters of an hour she woke up and was ready to be bribed with cheese :) Who doesn't want to be bribed with cheese? A girl after my own heart. Here are some of the wonderful photos that Cheryl took:

Flowers for Mary

One of the classes I have coming up in April is about learning to knit flowered headbands for babies. Everyone always asks for a flower pattern and there just aren't lot (and most of them that are available are crochet; not knit).I've just started to design the flowers  - and they are turning out pretty cute if I do say so myself! There are going to be 3 different flowers in the pattern. Here's a sneak peak!

The wonderful part is that I will be teaming up with the wonderful Cheryl Maclennan for the photograpy! She's letting me borrow her sweet little girl Mary to be my model too! I can't wait!

El Sol Brilla

Cotton scarves are the perfect accessories for summer! Lang's Sol Degrade is a combed cotton that has beautiful colorways and light, drapey feel to it. This scarf has a fun stitch pattern, interesting enough to keep a knitter intrigued but easy enough to knit while chatting.

Materials:

*1 Ball of Lang Sol Degrade - 100% Combed Cotton, 200 meters / 220 yards per 100grams
*10 mm Needles
*A Darning Needle

Size:
5 x 70 inches

Instructions:

Cast on 20 sts.

Rows 1-4: Knit
Rows 5-18: K1. *Yo, K2tog. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
Repeat rows 1-18, 12 more times..
Knit 4 rows.
Cast off.
Weave in ends using a darning needle.

Abbreviations:

K- Knit
K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together

Alternate Ideas:

* Sew the ends of the scarf together to wear as a trendy cowl.

* Put the two ends of the scarf togther and pull through the loop side of the scarf.

*Use any ribbon yarn to achieve the same look.

Work & Sunday Knitting

Today I spend the day trying to finish up projects for people and teaching private lessons. This moss stitch sweater just needed some sewing up for a lady who turns out the cutest things. I quite enjoy sewing knitting together - it's nice to turn out something that people are proud to wear. Sewing sweaters is an art form that can turn a sweater from homemade to hand knit. It's worth spending the extra time to make a sweater look perfect then to rush and have it sitting in the bottom of the closet for eternity.

       It was only -19 and felt a lot warmer than it has in at least a week! Seeing as it is to warm up a bit more this week, I thought it was only right to buy some flowers to encourage spring to come. I enjoyed how bright of an orange these flowers were. The rest of the day will be spent on organizing, writing & laying out two new hat patterns that I'm designing.

New Free Pattern - The Celestial Cowl!

The Celestial Cowl

This pattern is featured on the Gina Brown's website as a free pattern promotion for the Schulana Mosco. It's a fun quick knit that only takes a few hours to make - just in time for Christmas! The beautiful linen ribbon yarn mixed with the mohair makes for a light as air, ethereal look.

Materials:

2 Balls of Jaeger Celeste - MC - #185 Lilac - 90 Meters - (50% Viscose, 30% Polyamide, 20% Linen)
1 Ball of Schulana Mosco - CC - #30 Purple - 125 Meters - (67% Viscose, 20% Mohair Superkid, 13% Polyamide)
12mm Needles

Instructions:

Cast on 30sts.
Row 1-2 : Knit with MC
Row 3-4: Knit with CC

Repeat the last 4 rows until scarf measures 65 inches.
Sew the top and the bottom to each other. Weave in all ends. Wash & block.

Tips & Tricks

*This yarn is now discontinued as Jaeger is now out of business but we have 4 lovely colors - all at half price!! This makes the project under 20$ to knit!

* When sewing the scarf together, you could twist one end for the appearance of a infinity scarf.

* The Celestial Cowl could be made by substituting the Mosco with 1 ball of Superkid Mohair such as Drops Kid Silk or Schulana Kid Seta.

* The Celestial Cowl could also be left open and worn as a scarf.

A Baby Hat for Anna

One of the ladies in my Pick Your Project class is having a baby coming up in February. Anna has been a part of my Pick Your Project class for awhile now and we quite enjoy having her! I knit up a wee hat for her baby out of some King Cole Merino Blend DK - 778 Purple for the trim and Naturally Magic Garden All Sorts - #405 Purple.
