New Yarns, New Inspiration!

Yesterday I received the notice from Canada Post that I had a parcel waiting! I just love getting new yarns - they are so filled with hope to become something amazing.

What awaited me, was a beautiful box of yummy new yarns from Done Roving Yarns !

This gorgous yarn is called Frolicking Feet  in color Manderin Lime! So bright and cheerful :) There's 480 yards per ball.

This is Done Roving Yarn's new yarn called Silky Criations in Sunglow.

It's delightfully soft and in a dk weight. There's 250 yards per ball! I love the drape this yarn will provide. Now I just have to start knitting. I have two new patterns to design out of this yarn and not a huge deadline.

Baby Headband Pattern is Now Available

I have just uploaded my latest pattern "Flowered Baby Headbands" on Ravelry and updated my patterns page. (The pattern is available for purchase here).I am so excited about this pattern!

Originally it was for a class that I was teaching and now I'm quite taken with knitting these little flowers! They are so quick and easy to knit. I can make a leaf in a few minutes. These are going to be with every baby present from now on - either as a decoration on the present with a bar pin on the back or as part of a baby outfit (I normally give everyone a sweater). Big shout out to Cheryl again for her amazing photography :)

Another Baby Dress

One of our customers has been on a tear knitting up baby dresses. She has a few granddaughters now and loves to knit this pattern for each one.  Everytime she finishes one, she brings it in to be sewn and to have the trim added around the neck.

Another one finished and added to her collection.

Photo Shoot With Cheryl!

Today I spent the afternoon with Cheryl. I was busily knitting more flowers when I realized that I had to pick up the rose petals that I had ordered from the flower store. I couldn't believe that for 5$, I received a whole grocery shopping bag FULL of rose petals. Such a good deal!

We had a wonderful time shooting Mary in the headbands - she was fast asleep when I arrived; which made for some wonderful photos!  She looks like a sweet little angel - so adorable :)

After three quarters of an hour she woke up and was ready to be bribed with cheese :) Who doesn't want to be bribed with cheese? A girl after my own heart. Here are some of the wonderful photos that Cheryl took:

Flowers for Mary

One of the classes I have coming up in April is about learning to knit flowered headbands for babies. Everyone always asks for a flower pattern and there just aren't lot (and most of them that are available are crochet; not knit).I've just started to design the flowers  - and they are turning out pretty cute if I do say so myself! There are going to be 3 different flowers in the pattern. Here's a sneak peak!

The wonderful part is that I will be teaming up with the wonderful Cheryl Maclennan for the photograpy! She's letting me borrow her sweet little girl Mary to be my model too! I can't wait!

El Sol Brilla

Cotton scarves are the perfect accessories for summer! Lang's Sol Degrade is a combed cotton that has beautiful colorways and light, drapey feel to it. This scarf has a fun stitch pattern, interesting enough to keep a knitter intrigued but easy enough to knit while chatting.

Materials:

*1 Ball of Lang Sol Degrade - 100% Combed Cotton, 200 meters / 220 yards per 100grams
*10 mm Needles
*A Darning Needle

Size:
5 x 70 inches

Instructions:

Cast on 20 sts.

Rows 1-4: Knit
Rows 5-18: K1. *Yo, K2tog. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
Repeat rows 1-18, 12 more times..
Knit 4 rows.
Cast off.
Weave in ends using a darning needle.

Abbreviations:

K- Knit
K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together

Alternate Ideas:

* Sew the ends of the scarf together to wear as a trendy cowl.

* Put the two ends of the scarf togther and pull through the loop side of the scarf.

*Use any ribbon yarn to achieve the same look.

Work & Sunday Knitting

Today I spend the day trying to finish up projects for people and teaching private lessons. This moss stitch sweater just needed some sewing up for a lady who turns out the cutest things. I quite enjoy sewing knitting together - it's nice to turn out something that people are proud to wear. Sewing sweaters is an art form that can turn a sweater from homemade to hand knit. It's worth spending the extra time to make a sweater look perfect then to rush and have it sitting in the bottom of the closet for eternity.

       It was only -19 and felt a lot warmer than it has in at least a week! Seeing as it is to warm up a bit more this week, I thought it was only right to buy some flowers to encourage spring to come. I enjoyed how bright of an orange these flowers were. The rest of the day will be spent on organizing, writing & laying out two new hat patterns that I'm designing.
